Beginner Contemporary

Lindsey White

Novice dancers and movers new to contemporary- this class is for you! Contemporary dance is a melange of styles from the classical (ballet, modern, jazz) to the current (hip hop, funk), all rolled into one gooey, beautiful mess.

Class begins with a warm focused on joint mobility, and short, guided improvisation exercises that will help you explore your own unique way of moving. After a few simple combinations of movements across the floor, class culminates in learning a phrase of contemporary choreography.

Wear comfortable clothes you can move in; contemporary can be practiced in socks or bare feet.

Advanced Contemporary

Sarah McCullough

This class creates a space where every mover can indulge in the movement their body desires. The core themes of this practice include sensory exploration, movement as meditation, and engaging with the body’s intuition. Move through guided improvisation and phrasework to engage the senses and awaken the body with a focus on curiosity and aliveness. You'll spend time on the floor, upside down, on one leg, moving through space.

Contemporary Movement Practice is for intermediate and advanced movers interested in researching their unique movement modalities and how it informs the class material. Get into what you like, shake away what you don't!
